Eligibility and Age Limit (as of August 1, 2026)
To apply, you must have passed the 12th Standard or an equivalent exam from a recognized board.
- Grade C: 18 to 30 years
- Grade D: 18 to 27 years
(Age relaxation applies to reserved categories like SC, ST, and OBC as per government rules.)
Exam Pattern and Selection Process
The selection happens in two main stages:
- Computer-Based Test (CBT): * Subjects: Reasoning (50 marks), General Awareness (50 marks), and English Language & Comprehension (100 marks).
- Total: 200 Questions, 200 Marks.
- Duration: 2 Hours.
- Negative Marking: 0.25 marks for every wrong answer.
- Skill Test (Stenography):
- Candidates will receive a 10-minute dictation.
- Grade C Speed: 100 words per minute (wpm).
- Grade D Speed: 80 words per minute (wpm).
- The shorthand notes must then be transcribed on a computer.
How to Apply
If you haven’t already, you must first complete the One-Time Registration (OTR) on the new official website ssc.gov.in. After OTR, you can log in and fill out the Stenographer 2026 application form. Always double-check your details before final submission to avoid correction charges later.
