Amavasya 2025

Amavasya, or the no-moon day, holds a special place in Hinduism. According to the Hindu calendar, Amavasya occurs once every 30 days and marks the last day of the Krishna Paksha (waning phase of the moon). On this day, the moon is not visible in the sky. It is considered an auspicious day for spiritual practices, offering prayers to ancestors, and performing rituals.

In Hindu beliefs, it is said that on Amavasya, our ancestors visit Earth from the Pitru Lok (the realm of ancestors). Performing Shraddha rituals and Tarpan (offerings of water and food) on this day pleases the ancestors, and their blessings bring peace, prosperity, and happiness to the family. Additionally, charity done on this day is believed to be highly rewarding. Donating food, clothes, or money is considered a way to satisfy the souls of the ancestors.

Amavasya days also hold special significance for meditation, worship, and giving. Among all Amavasyas, Shani Amavasya (when it falls on a Saturday) and Somvati Amavasya (when it falls on a Monday) are particularly important. In 2025, there will be two Shani Amavasya and one Somvati Amavasya. Below is the complete list of Amavasya dates in 2025.

Significance of Amavasya

Amavasya is not just about rituals for ancestors; it is also an ideal day for meditation, prayer, and charity. On this day, many people take a holy dip in rivers or sacred water bodies and worship Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. These activities are believed to bring spiritual benefits and positive energy.

Performing rituals and charity on Amavasya helps in resolving Pitru Dosha (ancestral karma) and brings peace and harmony to the family. People honor their ancestors with devotion, and their blessings bring prosperity. Each Amavasya in 2025 offers an opportunity for spiritual growth and a deeper connection with one’s roots.

Mark these dates and observe them with faith and dedication for a peaceful and blessed year.
